I attended Senator Gail Schwartz and Rep. Millie Hamner's town hall meeting in Paonia last Saturday concerning the layoffs at the Oxbow Coal Mine. We heard all about what government agencies can do for the laid-off miners.
Former President Ronald Reagan once said, "The scariest 10 words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help you."
If Senator Schwartz and Representative Hamner really wanted to help, they would work to deregulate and get the Sierra Club, Earth Guardians and environmentalists like them off the backs of the coal mines so they can produce coal economically and provide jobs. We don't need government to help us, we need government to protect our rights and then get out of our way. Too much governments leads to tyranny.
