Letters to the editor in last week's DCI report instances of rather nasty human behavior. There's one lesson that many folks learned from parents and teachers.
My father and uncles were hunters, outdoorsmen, farmers and rather politically conservative. Here's the lesson:
Respect for the land + respect for wildlife and animals in general + respect for others = respect for oneself.
It seems that there are a few folks out there who never got that lesson.
Stealing political signs is a form of petty larceny. Laws exist regarding vandalism.
One sign I know was stolen from private property at least 100 feet from the public road right-of-way. Trespassing may not be a felony, but it sure isn't neighborly.
In other words, not only is such behavior disrespectful it is also criminal.
There are studies out there that indicate that disrespect and anti-social behaviors are indicators of a lack of self-respect and even self-loathing. So to you folks out there who indulge in these behaviors — take a look in the mirror. Do you like who you are? Wouldn't it be nice to look at that person and say "Hey there, it's really nice to know you?"
