Excessive partisanship decried
Dear Editor:
The letter from Lloyal Anderson published in last week's edition of the DCI, calling supporters of Barack Obama a "depraved electorate" and a "multitude of fools," is both offensive and reprehensible.
Excessive partisanship exhibited by members of Congress has just about stalled any legislative progress during the past two years.
It is only the electorate that can say "no" to this dangerous precedent, not get caught up in the vitriol and hatred. The 50% of the electorate that are angrily dismissed in this letter are our neighbors, co-workers and fellow citizens. No matter who wins, we are all going to have to continue to live together.
The strength of the American republic has always been the willingness of its citizens to accept and live with the political decisions of the electorate at the polls. This is as true now as it was in 1960, 1980, and 1992. Let us hope that those who are caught up in excessive partisanship will realize that those in our community of a different political persuasion are neither "depraved" nor "fools," but are simply exercising one of the most sacred and fundamental of American rights and obligations.
