Fight to keep our town great

Dear Editor:

Although the election is over, for those of you who feel discouraged, this is no time to give up. There are still issues we can all fight for on the local level.

With the passage of Amendment 64, marijuana use has been legalized and drivers will have to be alert for more than just drunk drivers and distracted cell phone users.

It has been interesting to me to see the responses of the Grand Junction Police Department and the more conservative approach of the Montrose Town Council. How each of these entities is considering and preparing for the impact of Amendment 64 was recently featured on KREX TV.

As a longtime youth group leader and volunteer at the Delta jail, I implore the citizens of Delta County to stand up and protect our young people. We do not have to have pot shops in our towns.

We have all seen abuses since medical marijuana was legalized in our state. I am hoping and praying the citizens of Delta and our whole county will stand up against this "gateway drug."

Another issue we can also take a stand against locally is Amendment 21. I hope everyone will take a good look at this measure and its local impact.

Despite hard economic times, this is still a great town and area in which to raise a family. But we have to all fight to keep it that way.
