At any time, you can read or hearing something negative in the news about our area. Times are hard and many residents are facing very tough times.
But we also live in a very giving community where people are still willing to help each other. This certainly proved true during the Surface Creek Community Services holiday dinner distribution.
Thank you to each person, business, church and community service organization who donated food, money, your time and space for us to assemble boxes so families in need throughout the Surface Creek Valley could have a better holiday. This year we served 260 families (over 600 individuals). It was a much larger project than ever before, and this area's residents stepped up in a huge way. From turkey vouchers, canned goods and fresh fruit and vegetables, pies and lots of volunteer hours, you truly made each holiday dinner the best we could offer. It is truly inspiring and a privilege to work on such a project with so many giving people. You have confirmed that Surface Creek is a great place to live with many caring people.
Many of our clients have shared their thanks with us, and we are passing them on to you. From some of their notes we have heard, "I am glad for the chance to say thank you to everyone for a wonderful Christmas dinner. I only wish I could thank everyone in person." Another client shared, "Thank you so much for your gracious gifts. We are truly grateful. God bless."
Additionally, we want to remind you that hunger knows no season. The SCCS Food Bank is operated year around to serve residents of the Surface Creek Valley. We are open Mondays from 9 to 11 a.m. and Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m. All donations to the food bank are tax deductible. Please consider the food bank in your year-end tax planning.
