Recognizing a special person

Dear Editor:

I would like to take an opportunity to make note of a special person in our community. His name is Christian and he works at the Delta County Library.

I have been a frequent patron of libraries in many different communities, and while I have found most librarians to be wonderful people, Christian is exceptional. I walked in there yesterday and found several of our young students engaged in a "scavenger hunt." I don't know what they were doing exactly but to see their bright eyes and excitement over being in a library was inspiring. Christian has put together many other children's and young adult programs that bring our kids eagerly to the library. In a time of digital obsession it is quite satisfying to see young people exposed to the joys of a library.

On a personal note I have a son with special needs that Christian took under his wing last summer in his volunteer program. His kindness and can-do attitude made him an instant hero to my son, and I am sure to many other young people.

We are lucky to have someone with so much innovation and enthusiasm who works every day to be an exemplary role model to the next generation. It is my hope that people like Christian and programs like the ones he puts on will help ensure our libraries remain a vital institution in our communities.

Thanks Christian!
