Dear Editor:
First, thank you to Pat Sunderland for writing a most informative article about Delta County Sheriff Fred McKee's stand on the Second Amendment (DCI, Feb. 27). It was done without prejudice or agenda, which is unlike much of the other printed news media.
Second, thank you Sheriff McKee for having made the decision to uphold the constitutional provisions as specified in our most cherished national foundation, the Constitution of the United States. It is most refreshing to know that our chief law enforcement officer will not bow to the fluid politics and misguided policies of the Colorado legislature and governor. As well, Sheriff McKee is to be commended for this stand which appears to have put him against the reigning sentiment and continued misguided direction of many of our Washington bureaucrats.
Third, thank you Sheriff McKee and all of the Colorado sheriffs who are taking this stand in their respective counties. Since Sheriff McKee is the president of the County Sheriffs of Colorado, he has shown exceptional leadership of that organization in bringing forth the stand against this attack upon the Second Amendment in particular. More importantly, he is currently leading the fight (so to speak) with our fellow county sheriffs in upholding the very essence of our Constitution.
Fourth, all of us should be emphatically in support of Sheriff McKee since he is taking the brunt of these errant policies coming from Denver and Washington D.C. I, for one, am proud of our sheriff and am in full support of his stand against these "knee jerk" political, legislative over reactions. Let us all be there for Sheriff McKee, at his side, physically and in firm resolve, if these misguided elected officials attempt to remove or usurp his authority and position.
So thank you again Sheriff McKee, for your stance, and job "well done."
Robert Peck
