Can you buy control? Our federal government seems to think so and has been relatively successful so far.
Race to the Top grant money from the stimulus bill has been used to entice our states and local school districts into accepting the common core initiative, a vehicle to nationalize our public school system and give the federal government total control over what our children are taught.
Common core is a set of national standards for our schools. Those people who write CC will write the standardized tests and tests control what curriculum will be taught. Those in favor of CC say it will enable children moving from state to state to adapt to a new school easier as all the states will have the same standards and will be teaching the same thing. For instance, no more having to catch up because of coming from a state with lower math standards etc. That's fine as long as every state stays the same and not one single state or school district decides to excel and have a higher standard. If so, we are right back where we started, only now we have federal control over a bottom line standard.
CC is a wolf in sheep's clothing and must be rejected. Colorado is using HB191, SB193 and SB213 to finalize the acceptance of Race to the Top and common core into our state. Please, write your state legislators and encourage them to vote against these bills and vote against SB213 when it appears on the ballot this fall. It will not only raise our taxes but will enable the full implementation of RTTT and CC. Our local school districts and parents will lose control over what our children are taught. Our freedom is being bought and so is our local control of our children's education!
