Common Core, a good thing or a Trojan horse? In 2010 when Race to the Top came into our state by way of a federal grant (money), one of the strings attached was Common Core.
Common Core is a set of universal standards which will enable the federal government to control the education of our children from preschool to 12th grade.
An unelected consortium (panel of people with common interests) control the standards, the assessments and testing of our education system. When you control testing, you also control curriculum no matter who writes it. Curriculum is always designed so students can pass the standardized tests. In researching Common Core and Race to the Top you will find they are made to look good on the surface but they are a maze of legislation and grants designed to take away local, parental control of education across the U.S. This takeover is in the final stage and must be stopped now before January 2014 or it will be too late. Please dig below the surface rhetoric of Common Core and Race to the Top. Then write and call your state congressmen, district board of education, district administration and state board of education and tell them you are against Common Core. They are the ones who can stop this by working to resend SB-172 and helping to stop HB-191, SB-193, and SB-213 from passing. Common Core is indeed a Trojan horse.
