DMEA just held its annual meeting and the organization goes to great lengths to ensure the election process will withstand any and all scrutiny.
DMEA requires ballots to either be mailed in advance or hand delivered to the Credentials Committee at the annual meeting.
Ballots dropped off at DMEA, or delivered to the annual meeting by anyone other than the voter himself, are considered invalid. The employees of DMEA are not allowed to handle ballots.
Unfortunately, every year a few members get incensed when their ballot is rejected because they failed to follow the requirements for voting.
One member verbally assaulted a DMEA customer service representative when she tried to tell him she could not accept his "drop-off" ballot at DMEA headquarters. When she suggested that he mail the ballot he became irate, describing the ballot in explicit terms and telling her where she could put it.
Another member at the annual meeting was highly agitated because we wouldn't accept his ballot after the polls had closed.
Some folks were argumentative because we couldn't accept the ballots they brought in for their friends and neighbors.
Please remember that, in any election, adhering to all voting rules will ensure your vote is counted.
