Recently I witnessed a police officer stop and harass a young boy for riding his skateboard on 2nd Street. The kid was minding his own business, not causing any problems.
Part of the total 1.7 million acres proposed as “critical habitat” for the Gunnison Sage Grouse, and that would affect lands in Delta County, is shown in Unit 5 on the map above. The map portion, from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, does not display the entire critical habitat range proposed. In last week’s DCI, an image from the Colorado Division of Parks and Wildlife showing what is believed to be the bird’s “historic range”was mistakenly printed.Dear Editor:
There are several mistakes in the lead, front page article of the March 20, 2013, DCI about Gunnison sage grouse. The first and most glaring is using the map in the article as a representation of U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service critical habitat.

In this 2013 Colorado legislative session our Democratic governor, senators and representatives have continually turned their backs on the law abiding citizens of this great state and in the process have greatly enabled the criminals in our society. By defeating Jessica's law they have favored the child predator over the truly innocent.

Ms. Virginia Allen's letter last week criticizing my votes on the DMEA board failed to mention that until late in 2012 she worked for DMEA as director of human resources. In retirement, she continues to work on behalf of her former co-workers by trying to get rid of DMEA directors whose votes challenge DMEA's status quo.

The Western Slope Conservation Center has existed as an active grassroots organization for 35 years in the form of the separate, but now merged, Western Slope Environmental Resource Center and the North Fork River Improvement Association. As one of its areas of concern, the Conservation Center is intensely interested in the wise use of our state's water and especially as it may improve water quality and in stream flows.

I would like to extend compliments to the Paonia High girls' basketball team for coming within a butterfly's breath of being a finalist in the state tournament. It was a terrific season.
