Dear Editor:
A recent letter writer to the editor blames the golf course for "a town population struggling to pay for food, heat, water, taxes, electricity and other essentials."
As one of my golf partners would say, REALLY?
Dear Editor:
Once gas prices hit $4 here (they are already $5 in Washington, D.C.) you need to make a permanent adjustment to your budget to make room for a larger energy bill. Gas prices may stagger back down the way they did last year, but not for long, and if you look at the historic trends in oil discoveries and oil production on the chart, you will note that the era of cheap gasoline is about over.
Dear Editor:
Feral cats in Delta and other towns throughout the county are drawing a lot of attention these days, and everyone seems to be asking the same question: "What is being done?" We are looking for a few people or organizations more interested in asking "How can we help?" to aid in developing a communit-wide solution.
Dear Editor:
I have been to just about all local meetings related to the proposed BLM August 2012 oil and gas lease sale. I also did my own limited research by talking to western Colorado based geologists, BLM officials and representatives of the gas industry.
Dear Editor:
It is unfortunate that Delta's Board of County Commissioners has decided to abandon their request for a deferral of leasing due to the outdated RMP. (County will abandon lease deferral option, DCI 4/4/12.)
Dear Editor:
The DCI continues to do a good job of tracking the BLM lease sale in the North Fork Valley. In the April 4 issue of the DCI there is an article by Kathy Browning discussing the meeting held at the Hotchkiss High School on March 31.
Dear Editor:
Some of us can remember back to spring 2002, when Tony Gale, a geologist and vice president of Gunnison Energy Company, stood before us in crowded meetings in the North Fork Valley and told us what a great deal the natural gas wells GEC wanted to drill will be for us.
Now, 10 years later, Tony Gale is telling a different story.
Dear Editor:
When I received my ballot and read Delta Measure 2A, it initially made no sense. I read it a few more times and it still made no sense.
Dear Editor:
Many parents of Delta County have asked this question: "Should we put more effort in teaching the meaning of our United States Constitution in our schools?" To me it is of utmost importance for the future of our country, our liberty and freedom to understand our Constitution.
Dear Editor:
The weekend of March 31 and April 1, about 50 Delta County folks heard and participated in one of Shane Krauser's seminars on the American Constitution. Mr. Krauser, adjunct professor of constitutional law and a practicing attorney in Phoenix, traveled to Delta from Arizona and the American Academy for Constitutional Education.
