The Cedaredge town trustees got an update report on the garden during their Nov. 15 regular meeting from project coordinator Larry Claxton.
The members of the board of directors of the community garden project stated their thanks for the town board's support. The project's success is shown by the fact that all the available garden plots were used this past summer.
The community garden has gotten its non-profit status and is working on a new web page.
Four raised-bed garden plots have been added to enable seniors with mobility issues the chance to have a garden plot of their own.
Two of the garden plots have been allocated for providing fresh produce to the Surface Creek Community Food Bank.
New additions include a solar powered vent fan for the bedding plant green house. The Community Garden board received a certificate of appreciation from Community Options, Claxton reported.
In the planning for 2013 are discussions for expansion of the garden. There will be an increased focus on water conservation. Use of soaker hoses is encouraged and will be expanded. A wind screen will be placed on the south side fencing to act as a wind break and help prevent ground-drying breezes.
A new rototiller is also in next year's plans.
