Nurse practitioner joins Grand Mesa Family Practice

c07 slavenedmondSlaven-EmondCertified nurse practitioner AliceMarie Slaven-Emond, RN, MSN, started working recently at Dr. Jennifer Craig's Grand Mesa Family Practice clinic, and in Delta with the Delta Health and Wellness Center.

Slaven-Edmond has been a family nurse practitioner for 15 years and is nationally certified in primary care.

She is a native of Denver and a graduate of Colorado State University (BS), Montana State University (BSN) and University of Colorado (MSN). AliceMarie is a member of the American Nurses Association and takes great pride in being "first a nurse" and then a nurse practitioner.

She has been actively involved in maternal and child health community programs, and was recognized in 2003 as one of 23 community health leaders by The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

AliceMarie remains active with the RWJ Foundation, working on health initiatives on a national level. She also travels to Haiti on a medical mission 10 days per year.

"It takes three months to recuperate from the mission and six months to prepare for one," claims AliceMarie. Last year she talked American Airlines into transporting 19 handmade large duffle bags carrying 100 pounds of supplies with her and her mission team to the Dominican Republic for delivery to Haiti after a four-hour jungle ride.

AliceMarie has been married to Boyd Emond, a veterinarian, for 41 years. Her husband will be retiring in February 2014 and living full time in Delta. They have already connected with St. Luke's Episcopal Church as their place of worship in Delta. AliceMarie's hobbies include knitting, quilting, country/western and square dancing, children's clothing design, and she recycles and reuses just about anything. She fully enjoys the activities of grandparenting as well.

AliceMarie and her husband look forward to being active, contributing community members in Delta County.

Slaven-Emond commented, "We have always felt an obligation to contribute in a positive way to any community we have ever lived in. I don't expect us to change our ways now!"
