A special gathering at the Cedaredge Library was held Dec. 11. Cedaredge Women's Literary Club members, senior girls from Cedaredge High School and library staff members met for presentation of several gifts.
The literary club's connection with high school seniors refers back to the early days of the library when the club hired high school senior girls to work as librarians. The girls worked side by side with club members to organize books, type book information on file cards, check books in and out and answer questions from library users.
The club has held a program to honor senior girls since the spring of 1951, first with a tea, and later a luncheon. A tradition was started and has continued every year since that time.
Following the program and luncheon this past spring, last year's senior girls participated in the first literary soup collaboration. They assembled 250 soup packets. Some of this year's senior girls presented Cedaredge Library with a large screen television set and a blu ray player. Both items were purchased with proceeds from soup packet sales at AppleFest this past fall.
Another presentation took place the same day. Cedaredge Women's Literary Club members presented a book given in memory of Marge Maine. "Wintersong Christmas Readings" is by Madeline L'Engle and Luci Shaw. The book is written for children, chosen because Marge loved to read to children.blog comments powered by Disqus
