New location for avalanche training

The Cedaredge location of an avalanche awareness meeting this Friday has been changed.

The meeting will be held at the Cedaredge Community Center at 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 11, said event organizer Joe Ogelsby of the North Fork Snowmobile Club.

The event had originally been scheduled at the Creekside Cafe which has closed temporarily because of a kitchen fire.

Ogelsby said that the avalanche awareness course and training course is sponsored yearly and jointly hosted by the North Fork club and the Delta SnoKrusers Club.

Following the session Friday night which will include a bowl of homemade chili for attendees, the training will resume atop Grand Mesa at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

There, at the Mesa Top parking lot located between County Line Trail and the Lands End turnoff near mile marker 30, hands-on demonstrations will be conducted on the basics of avalanche awareness, rescue, and other topics.

The Delta SnoKrusers will host a ride following the Saturday class and everyone is welcome to ride along.
There will be door prizes awarded and there is a registration of $10 for Colorado Snowmobile Club members, or $20 for non-members.

Joe Ogelsby can be reached at 921-3002. The phone for the North Fork Snowmobile Club is 872-2167. The Delta SnoKrusers number is 270-4474.
