Members of the Surface Creek Saddle Club met April 29 to finalize the schedule for the club's annual summer gymkhana series. Each gymkhana will include a barrel race, pole bending and flag race, and each night there will be a unique fun race.
There will be eight gymkhanas this year with the first planned Wednesday, May 29, at the Surface Creek Arena in Cedaredge.
The series continues May 29, June 5, June 12, June 19, June 16, July 17, July 24 and July 31.
The age categories are: 7 and under (includes lead line), 8-13, 14-17, 18 and over, and a novice class. The novice class is for adults who do not have any rodeo experience or their rodeo experience was a long time ago and they would like to try some of these activities. There will be points or ribbons for the novice class. Entry fees are $5 per event. Prizes and ribbons will be awarded in each youth category each evening. Awards will be given for the overall winner at the end of the season. The end-of-season awards ceremony is scheduled Aug. 18.
Sign-up for all gymkhanas is at the arena each night beginning at 6 p.m. Events will start at 6:45 p.m. All skill levels of riders and horses are invited to have fun and compete in these events.
Volunteers are needed to time, run gates and help with various other activities required to sponsor these games.
Specators are welcome. The concession stand will be open each evening.
