The Orchard City trustees on June 12 heard first reading of an ordinance that would ban wholesale/retail marijuana manufacturing and sales from the town.
The proposed ordinance will be up for second reading at the trustees' July 10 regular meeting.
There will also be a public hearing on the proposed ordinance at that time before a trustee vote on the measure.
The proposed ordinance includes the following provisions:
• The state constitutional amendment that legalized personal marijuana use (not withstanding an enforceable federal prohibition) allows for "a locality to prohibit the operation of various types of marijuana facilities."
• The operation, ownership, establishment and conduct of the following types of marijuana enterprises is outlawed: cultivation, product manufacturing, testing, and retail sales.
• Orchard City banned medical marijuana facilities on July 1, 2011.
If adopted, the ordinance would become effective 30 days later.blog comments powered by Disqus
