The quality of life in Surface Creek Valley hit a new high note on Saturday as the Valley Symphony Orchestra presented its annual concert in Cedaredge Town Park.
The outdoor venue at Centennial Bandstand provided perfect weather for the two-hour-long performance that featured many show tunes and popular favorites.
Conductor Michael Kern and Concert Master Deb TenNapel led musicians in an appropriate opening number, "Strike up the Band."
Many other selections followed including favorites from Fiddler on the Roof, West Side Story, and also a George Gershwin melody "Foggy Day in London Town" that fit in perfectly on a sunny afternoon in Cedaredge, Conductor Kern noted.
For pure nostalgic fun there was a salute to "vintage TV" featuring theme songs from one-time top shows of television's golden age including The Flintstones, Masterpiece Theater and Mash.
The concert concluded with a celebration of Americana that presented "Oh Shenandoah," "Oh Susanna" and "God Bless America," and which concluded with a cannon salute provided by the Eckhart Family of Cedaredge.
Refreshments were provided by supporters of the Valley Symphony Association who sold home baked pie with ice cream – "Bravo! Encore!"blog comments powered by Disqus
