Each year volunteers have hosted a community Christmas dinner in Cedaredge. Les and Dorothy Mergelman have spearheaded the effort every other year, and are looking for someone to run this year's effort.
The Mergelmans, in a letter sent out earlier this month to churches and service organizations, state,
"The Surface Creek area has been blessed to have a community Christmas dinner for many years. It is a tradition enjoyed by many, and every year our numbers seem to grow. We have hosted this dinner on an every-other-year basis. The people who have been in charge on alternate years are unable to continue for health reasons.
"It is the time of the year that we usually start getting sponsorships and start making arrangements for the dinner. However, without a commitment from someone or a group to oversee the final production on Christmas Day any effort at this time would be an exercise in futility.
"This dinner is not sponsored by one particular group or church. It is totally community. The last several years it has been held at the Stolte Shed with 200-250 people in attendance. The Stolte Shed has been very easy to work with and the people seem to enjoy the 'hominess' of the room.
"We are willing and able to assist anyone who would accept this project in every way possible, but because of family commitments, we will not be here at Christmastime. We will gladly share all of the information we have along with assistance in ordering the food products, provide any cooking or service equipment we have that may be needed, and with anything else that can be accomplished early or in our absence.
"It is our intention to continue our commitment to host the Christmas dinner alternately every other year as long as our health and physical abilities permit. We would hope that some person, family or group comes forward to carry on the alternate years. If anyone is willing to step up and take over this project, please contact us, Les or Dorothy Jean Mergelman, at 856-6676."blog comments powered by Disqus
