December is here and the days are getting colder. Christmas is fast approaching.
Surface Creek Food Bank is busy preparing for its annual holiday dinner distribution to needy families in the Surface Creek Valley. Last year the Surface Creek Food Bank distributed 275 dinners.
The Surface Creek Community Services (SCCS) board was able to purchase the food for the dinners using the monies collected for the holiday dinner box fund. Money for the holiday dinners does not come out of SCCS' general fund. This year the holiday dinner distribution is Dec. 14.
Each holiday dinner box includes a gift certificate for the purchase of meat from a local store, potatoes, vegetables, fresh fruit, rolls, margarine and the makings for a dessert. Each family dinner box costs $38 to assemble. The SCCS board is always on the lookout for the best prices and donations from the community to make the dinner boxes possible.
Please mail donations to Surface Creek Community Services, P.O. Box 963, Cedaredge, CO 81413 and mark the donation for HOLIDAY DINNER.
If you would like to volunteer or donate specific food items, please contact Jean Weisbeck at 399-7714.
The food bank is seeing larger families as more and more people are living together to cut costs. As you start thinking of your holiday dinner plans, please remember others in your community who need a little extra help.blog comments powered by Disqus
