The Board of County Commissioners has added a new condition to its Specific Development approval for Rocky Mountain Layers on Powell Mesa above Hotchkiss.

Rocky Mountain Layers is to obtain the services of a qualified air quality or air pollution engineer and submit an operations plan for ensuring the quality of air emissions from the 15,000-hen egg laying facility.

County to extend groundwater study

The county is preparing to proceed with the second phase of a study intended to give planners and policy makers a detailed picture of ground water systems here.

The first phase of the study was completed last year and dealt with parts of the Oak Mesa area generally north of Hotchkiss.

The Colorado State Patrol has identified the driver of a vehicle killed in a rollover accident on Highway 92 May 26. Frederick J. Lee, 59, of Grand Junction was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

The 73-year-old mother of a Delta resident reports she fired one round from a .22 handgun after her daughter spotted an unknown man rummaging inside her vehicle on Running Deer Road May 28. She later discovered she was missing $20 and a credit card.

On Thursday, June 13, the Colorado Departments of Local Affairs and Corrections and the Governor's Offices of Economic Development and International Trade and State Planning and Budgeting, will co-host a meeting in Delta to discuss the state's plan forward for appropriately utilizing state prisons and assisting communities which may be adversely impacted by potential prison closures in the future.

The meeting will be held at the Delta County Courthouse, 501 Palmer, from 9 to 10:30 a.m.

Tree removal concerns downtown business owners

On May 27, deputies from the Delta County and Gunnison County sheriff's offices investigated an underage alcohol party near U.S. Forest Service Road 712. The party was on U.S. Forest Service land about nine miles east of Crawford.

b03 painter Photo submitted Carbondale artist Mark Mace participated in the Paint Paonia competition in 2012. His painting “Windy Grand Avenue” won third place. The Blue Sage Center for the Arts is accepting entries for this year’s competition.The 4th of July and Cherry Days is approaching, and in Paonia that includes the Blue Sage's annual "Paint Paonia." This is a plein air painting event in which artists spend one day capturing on canvas what is special to them about Paonia and the surrounding area.
