Tyrell Clock competes at the Chris Severy Invitational in Aspen on Saturday. The course is located just above 8,000 feet in elevation and it has steep, long climbs that make for a long and memorable race for competitors.
The Hotchkiss girls claimed the team title with 24 points at the annual Chris Severy Memorial cross country invitational at Aspen on Saturday.
Holy Family placed second with 42 points.
Twenty-one teams competed, coming from as far away as Vangard School in Colorado Springs and Denver North.
The race is held in honor of Chris Severy, a cross country runner for Aspen and an All-American runner for CU-Boulder who died in a biking accident. The course is located just above 8,000 feet in elevation. This is the first year Hotchkiss has competed at Aspen.
Hotchkiss placed four girls in the top 10. Natalie Anderson placed second overall, Jenni Celis and Mae Anderson were seventh and eighth, and Sophia Schelle was 10th.
The girls ended the week in first place in 2A Region 4 and state 2A standings. Paonia and Crested Butte Community School are ranked second and third respectively.
Individually, Natalie Anderson, Celis, Mae Anderson and Schelle are ranked in the top 10 in the region, and Tiffany Clock is ranked 11th, according to Mile Split.
The Bulldogs boys team tied for fifth place with Vangard with 132 points, with Durango placing first with 32 points. Andrew Tiedemann placed ninth overall, Kurt Katzdorn finished 27th, Tyrell Clock was 31st and Taylor Schreiner was 55th out of a field of 117 runners.
The boys team is ranked first in the 2A Region 4, and second in state behind Lyons High School, according to Mile Split. Cody Bartlett is ranked second in the region, Andrew Tiedemann is ranked sixth and Kurt Katzdorn seventh with just one week remaining before regional competition, which will be run next Wednesday at Confluence Park in Delta.
