The Hotchkiss 3200-meter relay team of Alex Smith, Andrew Tiedeman, Kurt Katzdorn and Cody Bartlett posted a time of 8 minutes, 26.79 seconds to win the event at Saturday's Cedaredge Invitational. The team was three seconds shy of the meet record, set by Delta in 2011.
Tiedeman, a sophomore and first-year competitor in track, also shaved almost 13 seconds off of his time in the 1600m, placing second with a time of 4:48.28.
In the 1600m, Bartlett, Tiedeman and Katzdorn were ranked in the top 18 in state 2A competition heading into Saturday's meet.
As of last Friday, Bartlett's time of 4:46.42, which he ran on March 23 at the Hotchkiss Invitational, was the fastest official time in the state at the time.
Smith also placed sixth in the 400m with a time of 54.57, and Bartlett finished eighth.
The medley team of Trenton Tamayo, Mason Oxford, Earl Gaub and Caleb Schelle finished third with a time of 1:46.9.
Senior Keegan Palmer cleared the 40-foot mark in the triple jump, clearing 40-2.5 to place third Saturday.
