Jennifer Celis has set a record at every meet she's competed at this season. At Friday's Montrose Invitational, the junior sprinter/mid-distance runner ran the 800-meter in two minutes, 14.24 seconds for the win and a new meet record.
Celis was three-100ths of a second shy of the meet record in the 200m, finishing in 26.16 for the win.
Also placing first for the Bulldogs was freshman Mae Anderson, who won the 1600m in 5:39.21. Anderson outpaced Montrose's Lindi Congour by almost two seconds for the win. A week earlier, Congour topped Anderson at the Wertman Invitational to place second, with Anderson placing fourth.
Natalie Anderson placed second in the 3200m with a time of 11:57.09.
Kelli Buhrdorf finished sixth in the 100 (13.25), and ran a career-best 27.28 to place sixth in the 200m.
In a close race, the 1600m relay team of Natalie Anderson, Sophia Schelle, Mae Anderson and Celis finished second with a time of 4:10.62 — 14-100ths of a second behind Montrose. The 400m team of Arial Duncan, Alondra Gallegos, Katie Parsons and Buhrdorf finished eighth in 54.04.
Kylie Hodges earned points in throwing, placing eighth in shot put with a season-best throw of 35 feet, .05 inches, and seventh in the discus with a throw of 110-7.
The Hotchkiss boys earned points in seven events, scoring 44 points to place sixth at Montrose.
The 3200m relay team of Andrew Tiedeman, Alex Smith, Kurt Katzdorn and Cody Bartlett claimed a meet record with a first-place time of eight minutes, 18.46 seconds. The team remains ranked first in state 2A competition, almost 21 seconds ahead of second-ranked Telluride.
Bartlett also posted a first-place time of 10 minutes, 19.17 seconds in the 3200. Bartlett, who has five individual wins this year, has run the 3200 twice this season and shaved 13 seconds off of his winning time at the Delta meet on March 16. Kurt Katzdorn finished eighth (10:58.29).
Keegan Palmer finished third in the triple with a jump of 40 feet. His eighth-place time of 16.96 seconds in the 110 hurdles puts him in 11th place in state rankings, and in third place in the 2A Western Slope league with just one meet remaining before district competition.
Tiedeman also placed fourth in the 800 (2:05.3). The boys 400m team of Earl Gaub, River Panish, Smith and Mason Oxford placed seventh, and first among the 2A teams.
Oxford also placed third in the discus (130 feet, 4 inches), and Clayton Oxford placed eighth (115-5).
Hotchkiss competes this Friday at the Bruin Invitational in Cedaredge. Hotchkiss High School holds five records for the meet, including the 1600m (Natalie Anderson, 2011), the 400m (Celis, 2012), the 1600m relay (2012), the discus (Hodges, 2012) and the 100m hurdles (Ce Ce Pieper, 2010).blog comments powered by Disqus
