Senior Ciara Beegle has come a long way since her freshman year on the Hotchkiss junior varsity tennis team. After playing at 3 doubles last year, the senior will represent Hotchkiss at 1 singles this season.
The Bulldogs held off a seventh-inning rally to defeat Roaring Fork, 1-4, in a non-conference game played on March 19.
The Rams, who were missing some of their starters and playing a young team, opened with a one-run lead on a solo homer by senior first baseman Johnny Nieslanik.
This year's Bulldog track team drew roughly 55 student-athletes to its roster. While a handful of athletes were absent from Saturday's Delta Invitational meet, the boys' team earned 68 points and one gold to finish fourth overall, and the girls finished fifth with 59 points and claimed three golds and a meet record.
They may not have any superstars, but this year's Bulldogs baseball team is solid on fundamentals, said head coach Jason Yantzer. The basics have worked so far for the Bulldogs, who are 3-1 after the first week of play.
