At Friday's Montrose Invitational, the junior sprinter/mid-distance runner ran the 800-meter in two minutes, 14.24 seconds for the win and a new meet record.

Bulldogs second in 2A WSL play

Hotchkiss (11-4, 7-3) is in second place in the WSL following 15-5, 9-2 wins Saturday against Meeker (1-7, 1-7).

The double-header games were moved to Canyon View Park in Grand Junction due to last week's heavy snows in northern Colorado.

HHS thinclads set trio of marks at Wertman

Bartlett and Tiedeman placed first and second respectively and are ranked first and second in the 2A Western Slope League.The Hotchkiss girls' track team had four first-place showings and scored 77 points to place fourth at the 13-team Phil Wertman Invitational, held Friday at Stocker Stadium in Grand Junction. The girls also broke meet records in two events.

Lady ‘Dogs learning to throw

The throwers are part of a “throwing family” of friends from around the region and the state that support one another and forge lasting friendships through competitions.At Friday's Phil Wertman track and field meet in Grand Junction, away from the main events of the Stocker Stadium track, Hotchkiss junior Mariah Young set a new personal best in the shot put with a throw of 26 feet, 7 inches. Her second throw went 2 feet farther, measuring at 28-6.75.

Hotchkiss won 12 of 24 matches and scored 20 points to place ninth in the 13-team tournament.The Hotchkiss 2 doubles team of Bree Vernon and Tijay Lehman were the top finishers for Hotchkiss at the 2013 Delta County Invitational tennis tournament. Vernon and Lehman opened with a win over Cortez, then lost 8-3 in semifinals to Fruita Monument's junior varsity team.

HHS thrower, hurdler eye state qualifying marks

c07 hhstrPhoto by Tamie Meck Hotchkiss senior Mason Oxford practices his discus skills in preparation for last Friday’s Coal Ridge Invitational. Oxford began throwing the discus in middle school. He has gradually improved over the years and is a top-ranked thrower this season.Years and years of practice are paying off for Hotchkiss discus thrower Mason Oxford. After falling short of a state qualification in 2012, he has remained in the top 18 in Class 2A rankings since the start of the season and continues to improve.

Bulldogs, Eagles split DH

The teams split the conference twin-bill.After losing both games of a conference double-header against Paonia in March, Hotchkiss proved that it is a contender in the 2A Western Slope League by splitting its second double-header Saturday and outscoring Paonia 12-6 for the series.

Paonia squeaked by with a 3-2 win in game one.

Bulldogs will host Paonia Saturday

c05 hhsbbPhoto by Tamie Meck Bulldog Tye Bayles bunts for a 2-run single in game two of a conference double-header against Rangely. The Bulldogs swept the series, 2-11, 4-14. They host the second of two conference double-headers against Paonia this Saturday. The Bulldogs upped their record to 6-3 overall, 4-2 in 2A Western Slope League play after sweeping a conference double-header Saturday against Rangely (2-9, 1-5).

The Bulldogs opened the series with a 2-11 win over the Panthers.
