The teams split the conference twin-bill.After losing both games of a conference double-header against Paonia in March, Hotchkiss proved that it is a contender in the 2A Western Slope League by splitting its second double-header Saturday and outscoring Paonia 12-6 for the series.

Paonia squeaked by with a 3-2 win in game one.

They host the second of two conference double-headers against Paonia this Saturday. The Bulldogs upped their record to 6-3 overall, 4-2 in 2A Western Slope League play after sweeping a conference double-header Saturday against Rangely (2-9, 1-5).

The Bulldogs opened the series with a 2-11 win over the Panthers.

c04 hhsgtr Photo by Tamie Meck Hotchkiss junior Jenni Celis, shown here winning the 3200m relay at Delta, set a meet record in the 800m run at Saturday’s Frank Woodburn Invitational. Celis’s time is currently the fastest recorded in the state this season, regardless of class, and the 27th best in the nation.To no one's surprise, Jennifer Celis claimed another track record, winning the 800-meter run Saturday in 2 minutes, 14.7 seconds to win the event at the Frank Woodburn Invitational in Grand Junction. Celis finished 10 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher in the two-lap race.

The Bulldogs dominated the conference series that included a 13-run inning in game one that ended 16-5.Hotchkiss swept a conference double-header over visiting Meeker Saturday, bringing its Western Slope League record to 2-2.

A whopping 13 runs in a single inning in game one allowed the Bulldogs to win the game in five innings.

Eagle Valley’s Hunter Burnham crossed the finish line first in a time of 4:47.51. Tiedemann’s time was 4:48.28.The Hotchkiss 3200-meter relay team of Alex Smith, Andrew Tiedeman, Kurt Katzdorn and Cody Bartlett posted a time of 8 minutes, 26.79 seconds to win the event at Saturday's Cedaredge Invitational. The team was three seconds shy of the meet record, set by Delta in 2011.

Delta eventually gained the lead and a new meet mark at 9:56.46. Hotchkiss was second.Hotchkiss junior Jennifer Celis claimed another meet record Saturday, besting the old Cedaredge Invitational record by more than a second to win the 400-meter dash. Celis's time of 57.8 seconds was two-tenths of a second over her record-setting performance a week earlier at the Hotchkiss Invitational.

Smith and Tiedeman finished one and two, respectively, in the event.Jennifer Celis put her name on a second meet record at Saturday's Hotchkiss Bulldog Invitational, winning the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.5 seconds. The time also set a personal record for Celis, who placed second in the event in 2012 with a time if 58.57.
