Jennifer Celis knew that a repeat win in the 800-meter run wouldn't be easy. Celis, who won the event in 2012 as a sophomore, had Tabor Scholl of West Grand to contend with.
The Hotchkiss boys team won four individual events and one relay and scored 127 points to win the 2A Western Slope League track meet.
Senior Cody Bartlett scored 30 points by winning three individual events, including the 800-meter run (2 minutes, 1.28 seconds), the 1600m (4:31.41) and the 3200m with a new WSL meet record of 9:56.69.
Competing against one of the fastest runners in the state has its benefits. In Friday's 400-meter race at Cedaredge, sophomore Alex Smith kept pace with Coal Ridge's Raul Oyarzabal, ranked first in 3A Western Slope competition and seventh in state, and finished second.
