After experiencing big improvement under new head coach Kendal Roberts in 2012, the Lady Bulldogs volleyball team is hoping to improve on its record again this fall.
Hotchkiss finished just below the middle of the pack in 2012 Western Slope League standings with an 8-13 overall, 4-6 league record.
After losing 15 varsity seniors, the Hotchkiss Bulldogs will have their work cut out for them this fall if they want to make the playoffs for a seventh consecutive season. Hotchkiss is ranked fourth in state 1A competition, which is impressive, but they will have to contend with two other top-ranked teams in the state, both Western Slope League teams, to get there.
Ever since Natalie Anderson and Jennifer Celis started running for Hotchkiss in 2010, the Hotchkiss girls' cross country team has dominated almost every meet, regardless of class, and finished no less than second at state. Last year, after moving from Class 3A to 2A, the team of Anderson, Celis, Sophia Schelle, Mae Anderson and Tiffany Clock ran to the school's first state cross country title.
For the past five years, the Hotchkiss Bulldogs football team has traveled to Alamosa in June to compete in the Adams State team camp. Head coach Zac Lemon said the team was able to play several scrimmage games during the camp.
