Lady Bulldogs lose volleyball matches

Hotchkiss setter Jessie Violett keeps the ball in play in action from an early-season volleyball match. The Lady Bulldogs will travel to Meeker this Friday, then finish off the final two weeks of scheduled matches at home.
The Lady Bulldogs' league record took a hit Saturday after suffering two losses in the Vail Valley. Hotchkiss fell in four sets to Vail Christian and in three to Vail Mountain.

Hotchkiss XC teams finish strong at 10th Anna Banana meet

Both Hotchkiss cross country teams posted strong finishes at Saturday's 10th running of the Anna Banana Memorial Wildcat Invitational, held at Connected Lakes State Park in Fruita. Twenty-three teams competed, coming from as far away as Greeley and Denver.

Azure Eller 2nd at Invite

Hotchkiss’ 3S player Azure Eller keeps his eye on the ball in his opening round 6-4, 6-4 win over Fruita JV at last weekend’s Delta Invitational Tennis Tournament. Eller was 2-1 for the tournament and lost in the final match against Grand Junction Central to place second. Eller was the highest placing Delta County player.
Azure Eller entered the Delta Invitational with a 6-1 record at No. 3 singles and a bad cold. But that didn't seem to bother the sophomore first-year player, who posted an opening-round, 6-4, 6-4 win over Fruita Monument JV, then caught a second wind, posting a 6-2, 6-0 win in the semifinals over Montrose.

Lady Bulldogs nip Bears in volleyball tilt

In a crowd-pleasing three-game match, the Lady Bulldogs upset the visiting Lady Bears of Rifle last Friday night (25-27, 22-25, 19-25).

After exchanging leads several times in the opening game, the teams were tied at 24 all.

Hotchkiss plays ‘best game’ in 48-20 win over Monte Vista

The Bulldogs played what head coach Zac Lemon described as "... our best game by far," defeating Monte Vista Friday, 48-20, at Monte Vista.

It was the first loss of the season for the Pirates (3-1), who are two-time defending Southern Peaks League champions and are currently in a three-way tie for first place heading into league play.

Bulldogs 4-3 heading into DC Tennis Tourney

With wins at No. 2 and 3 singles and 3 and 4 doubles, the Hotchkiss tennis team posted a 4-3 win last Wednesday over Fruita Monument High School's junior varsity squad. The Bulldogs lost 4-3 against the 5A school on Aug. 23.

Hotchkiss 2-5 in V-ball

Hotchkiss hitter Samantha Rocha is watched closely as she tips the ball to the floor to score against Meeker last Saturday. The Lady Bulldogs split a pair of matches, winning 3-0 against West Grand and losing 3-0 to Meeker.
It was an up and down week for Hotchkiss, with the Lady Bulldogs volleyball team ending the week at 1-2, including a grueling three-set loss to Roaring Fork (8-1 overall, 1-0 3A Western Slope League) on Sept. 11.

Rams senior twins Megan and Hattie Gianinetti recorded seven kills toward Roaring Fork's win.

HHS’ Anderson sets new mark at EV meet

Hotchkiss junior Natalie Anderson ran a new course record last Saturday to win the Eagle Valley Invitational Cross Country Meet in Gypsum. Hotchkiss will host its 12th annual Hotchkiss Invitational Cross Country Meet this Saturday.
For the past few seasons the Hotchkiss cross country team competed in week three at the Grand Junction meet. This year, they opted for a change and ran Saturday at the annual Eagle Valley Cross Country Invitational, which was largely a 3A meet.
