Firewood permits available for purchase

The Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service announce that "personal use" firewood permits are available for purchase. Permits can be purchased for $10 per cord, with a two-cord minimum requirement.

Ag department clarifies status of industrial hemp

Colorado Deputy Commissioner of Agriculture Ron Carleton issued a statement concerning industrial hemp and the process for cultivating it in compliance with Amendment 64 and legislation recently enacted by the Colorado General Assembly.

"Since passage of Amendment 64, the Department has received numerous inquiries from individuals who are interested in cultivating industrial hemp as a crop.

Feeding wildlife is harmful, can be costly

Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials are reminding the public about the negative consequences of feeding wildlife. The agency cautions that in addition to being harmful for the health of wild animals, it is illegal to feed deer, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, pronghorn, bears and elk in Colorado.

Nominations needed for NCA Advisory Council

The Bureau of Land Management is seeking nominations to fill eight vacancies on its Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation Area Advisory Council.

The 10-member citizen advisory council was formed in December 2010 to help the BLM develop a management plan for the 210,012-acre Dominguez-Escalante NCA near Delta.

Weigh-in held for goats, pigs and sheep

Delta County 4-H'ers and FFA students weighed in their prospective market swine, sheep and goats on Saturday, April 27. Excitement was high for the 129 local kids who brought 75 barrows and 82 gilts, 70 sheep and 56 goats to be weighed in, because the annual weigh-in is the first step toward raising these animals for the 2013 Junior Market Livestock Sale.
