Gunnison was in town on Thursday, Sept. 20, to play some softball, and play they did. The visiting Cowboys roped a 14-1 win in 3A WSL action.

Later in the week, Cedaredge visited Basalt for a Saturday doubleheader. Both contests were losses (11-7 and 12-3) for the Lady Bruins.

Against Gunnison, the first inning proved to be all that would be needed for a Cowboy win. Five runs were scored in the initial frame while the Gunnison defense kept the base paths clear for four innings.

The Lady Cowboys added three runs in each of the second and third innings to build an 11-0 lead heading into the fourth. Two more runs in the top of the fourth made the score 13-0.

Both teams plated a single run in the fifth inning making the final score 14-1.

Gunnison's Leigh Stichter had three hits in four at bats, including a double and triple on her way to four RBIs.

Kaitlyn Kissner, Heather Wilzcek, Katie O'Hern, Marissa Cantrell and Raylee Van der Linde all had singles for Cedaredge.

Savannah Nelson (6-6) was the winning pitcher while the Bruins' Cantrell (2-4) took the loss.

The Lady Bruins were in Basalt on Saturday for doubleheader play. A lack of hitting kept the Bruins from sustaining an offensive presence in the game.

Basalt overcame a 5-1 deficit to record an 11-7 win in game one. A five-run third provided plenty of motivation in the win.

In game two, the Lady Longhorns scored once in the first inning and tacked on five more in the third for a 6-0 lead going to the fourth. Basalt went on to score a 12-3 decision for the sweep.

Cedaredge's next diamond action is in Parachute for a doubleheader with the Grand Valley Lady Cardinals.

Game times are scheduled for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
