Cedaredge High School's track teams placed in the top 10 at last weekend's Cedaredge Invitational. The Lady Bruins scored 51 points to place sixth while the boys gathered 97.5 points to finish third.
Eagle Valley won both divisions. The girls had 118 points and the boys stole the day with 156.5 points.
Rebecca Deal was the lone first-place winner for the Cedaredge High School girls' track team last weekend. Deal jumped 16-2 to win the long jump.
Deal picked up second-place points for being a member of the Lady Bruins' 400m and 800m relay teams. Joining Deal on the 400m relay team were Summer Herman, Kendall McHugh and Rachael Latta. Her teammates on the 800m relay team included Herman, Latta and Mackenzie Kehmeier.
Third-place finishes went to Latta in the long jump (15-5) and the 1600m relay team of Kenzie Henderson, McHugh, Nellie Freeman and Kehmeier.
Kehmeier added fourth-place points to Cedaredge's team totals in the 200m dash and Kaitlyn Kissner was fifth in the discus.
Jessica Sullivan was seventh in the 800m run while Ashley Diaz (1600m run) and Micaela Shaw (shot put) placed eighth.
The Cedaredge boys, thanks in large part to the performances of Reid Gates, Austin Williams and Dante Markley, kept a steady flow of top eight finishers to post their 97.5 points and third-place finish.
Gates had a pair of first-place finishes to lead the Bruins in scoring for the day. Gates won the high jump with a leap of 6-6 and took the blue ribbon in long jump with a 20-9 effort. The talented junior was a member of the third-place 800m relay team that included Xander Camp, Steton Brewer and Ryan Latta. He placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 124-4.
Williams set a new meet record when he uncorked a 48-7 throw in the shot put competition. The old record was held by Norwood's Stryker Lane with his throw of 47-9.5. A throw of 130-1 in the discus was good for third for Williams.
Markley, though he did not have any first-place finishes Saturday, scored big points with top five finishes throughout the day. He placed second in the 100m dash (11.7) and 300m hurdles (41.41), and finished second in the 200m dash with a time of 23.89.
Markley's 17.16 in the 110m high hurdles was good for fourth place.
Other third-place finishes went to Camp in the 100m dash and Shane Gates in high jump.
Cedaredge's 400m relay team (Jake Arter, Brewer, Latta, Camp) placed fourth and Shane Gates was fifth in the 110m high hurdles.
Eighth-place finishes went to Brewer (300m hurdles) and the 1600m relay team of Shane Gates, Bryce Klaseen, Ryan Latta and Jacob Robb.
Cedaredge will participate in the Frank Woodburn Invitational at Stocker Stadium in Grand Junction this Saturday (April 6) beginning at 9 a.m.blog comments powered by Disqus
