The Cedaredge track squad was successful at last weekend's Gunnison Invitational held on Saturday, April 20. The boys' team earned 84 points, and had five first-place finishes, to earn top honors in the team race.
The Lady Bruins picked up 97 points, with just one first place finish, to capture second behind Paonia and its 157 points.
Dante Markley was a busy man Saturday. He personally contributed nearly 40 points to Cedaredge's team totals with three first-place finishes and a runner-up placing.
Markley won the 100-meter dash (11.49), 200-meter dash (22.7), and the 300-meter intermediate hurdles (41.35). He placed second in the 110- meter high hurdles with a time of 15.79.
Austin Williams scored a win in the shot put with his throw of 45-1 and Shane Gates tied for first with two other competitors in the high jump with an effort of 5-10.
Xander Camp scored high with his second- place finish in the 100-meter dash with his time of 11.83.
Cedaredge's 1600-meter relay team was fifth, with the 400-meter relay team finishing sixth.
Bryce Klaseen ran to a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter dash and Gates was sixth in the 110-meter high hurdles.
Mario Madaleno scored points with his seventh-place finish in the shot put and eighth-place finishes went to Ryan Latta (800-meter run), Williams in the discus, and the Bruins' 800-meter relay team.
The Lady Bruins' 800-meter relay team garnered top billing with its time of 1:50.71. That would be the lone first-place finish for the Lady Bruins.
Six runner-up finishes certainly helped Cedaredge finish second in the team race. Nellie Freeman (800-meter run; 2:29.10), Rachael Latta (long jump; 16-2), and Kaitlyn Kissner (discus; 106-6) finished second in individual events for Cedaredge.
Three relay teams collected second-place points. The 400-, 1600-, and 800-meter sprint medley relay teams finished their races in second place.
Mackenzie Kehmeier (200-meter dash; 27.53), Rebecca Deal (triple jump; 32-1.5), and Kenzie Henderson (high jump; 4-8) finished third.
Fifth-place finishes went to Summer Herman (100-meter dash), Ashley Diaz (1600-meter run), and Kendall McHugh (high jump).
Amber Jenkins was seventh in the 100-meter dash with eighth-place finishes going to Henderson in the 300-meter hurdles and Micaela Shaw in the discus throw.
