On Sept. 3, the Cedaredge varsity volleyball squad outscored Hotchkiss by a total of 14 points for a 3-1 non-conference win.
Hotchkiss was painfully close in two of the three sets.
Its 23 attack errors and 16 serve errors for the night, played on its own court, didn't help.
After a back-and-forth battle that included several long volleys, Cedaredge won the opening match, 25-21.
The Bulldogs were ahead by as much as eight points in game two and one of Daryl Batt's 11 kills for the night put them ahead, 19-11.
Consecutive kills by Amber Jenkins and Kenzie Henderson sparked a rally by the Lady Bruins, and a missed shot by Bulldog Katie Richards brought them to within five.
Henderson ended the rally with a neat tap over the net.
On the next rotation, Henderson served two consecutive aces to tie the game at 22-22 before Cedaredge was called on a line infraction. An intense do-over at 23-23 ended on a Bulldog error, and a carry call on the Bruins pushed the score to 24-24. Hotchkiss took a 25-24 lead, and the game ended on an error to tie the series.
Game three was back-and-forth until Bruin Summer Herman scored from outside to tie the game at 14-14. A kill by Henderson and a block by McKenzie Kehmeier helped lift Cedaredge to a 25-16 win.
Cedaredge found enough consistency to send the match to a fourth game, and finished the set with a 25-22 win.
The two teams will meet again on Sept. 24, at Cedaredge.blog comments powered by Disqus
