A new year; a new start; and a new head girls basketball coach for the Cedaredge Lady Bruins.
Ryan Hilbig will take over the program in 2013-14 and hopes to provide a spark and turn the Lady Bruins' basketball fortunes around.
Hilbig has taught in Delta the last two years and served as the Lady Panthers junior varsity team's coach for the same number of years. This will be his first year at the helm and he is excited.
"We are going to work hard and play as a team and see where that takes us," quoted Hilbig.
The Lady Bruins don't have size on their side, but there is a lot of hustle to help them find success in 2013-14.
Hilbig lists just three players whom he considers to be a few of the top playmakers for the Lady Bruins in the coming campaign. There are others who will contribute.
Sophomore Nellie Freeman has caught Hilbig's eye in the early going. She is an athletic point guard who continues to improve, notes Hilbig.
Senior Alyssa Isaman will play in the middle and has strong post-play attributes.
Dakota Baldozier is another senior Hilbig mentioned. She is a steady leader who has improved her all-around game.
Other players listed on the varsity squad by Hilbig include Sierra McHugh, Kaitlyn Kissner, Katie O'Hern, Becca Deal, Bree Guiterrez, Kristin Gardner, Mackenzie Kehmeier and Kendall McHugh.
This year's junior varsity team members include Sierra Baldozier, Amber Jenkins, Lacey Love, Makayla McKinney, Hailey Henry and Hannah Gilmore.
There are 10 C-team players listed for action in 2013-14. Those players are Taylor Swarts, Atlantis Campbell, Alma Nielsen, Kaeli Baugh, Samantha McDonald, Alexa Booth, Shayna Dale, Lynzie Stratman, Kayla Hutton and Catherine Garcia.
Hilbig sees Olathe, Moffat County and Grand Valley as some of the top-of-the-league contenders. "We need to prove we belong there too," says Hilbig.
A full list of players on the Lady Bruins' roster was not available prior to publication.
