After last week's opening win in Ridgway, the Cedaredge Bruin boys basketball team played well in two more games against league opponents this past week. Cedaredge used an up-tempo game against the visiting Gunnison Cowboys on Dec. 10 to post a 57-40 victory.
On Dec. 12, the Bruins got the best of Olathe in a 46-30 win.
Bruins 57, GHS 40
It was a toss-up as to who would take off in the early stages of this game. Neither team was a clear dominating squad in the opening quarter as each team posted eight points after eight minutes of action.
Four different players scored two points for the Bruins in the first quarter while Gunnison's Curry tallied all eight of the Cowboys' points.
Cedaredge's defense stepped up in the second stanza and allowed just three points while the Bruin offense took the lead with 13 points and a total of 21 points going to the halftime break.
Trent Walker hit a pair of 3-pointers in the third quarter to pace the Bruins to a 15-12 run in the first eight minutes after the break. Curry stayed hot for Gunnison as he poured in 10 more points to pace the Cowboys, who finished the quarter with 12 points.
The fourth quarter was a run-and-gun affair, with Cedaredge doing the most damage in a 21-17 run and a final score of 57-40.
Curry had 12 points in the final quarter and finished with 32 points to lead all scorers in the game. Walker's 15 and Chance Hanson's 13 paced the Bruins' offense.
Bruins 46, Pirates 30
The 0-4 Pirates were no match for Cedaredge in this Dec. 12 contest. It was 13-7 after one period and 29-11 at halftime. Olathe did outscore the Bruins 19-17 in the second half, but the damage had been done earlier in the game.
Hanson's 19 points led Cedaredge's offensive effort against the Pirates. Walker was in double-digits once again with 12 points. Hanson was six of 10 on his way to 19 points and hauled down eight offensive and eight defensive rebounds.
The Bruins were at Aspen on Dec. 17 and are scheduled to play in this week's annual First Colorado National Bank Basketball Tournament hosted by Delta. Cedaredge will face Paonia in its first game of the tournament at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 20. The winner will play either Delta or Hotchkiss, whose game is set for 7:30 p.m. on Friday.blog comments powered by Disqus
