The Cedaredge Lady Bruins, under the leadership of new head coach Ryan Hilbig, have gotten off to a good start in basketball. Cedaredge is 1-1 in 3A WSL play and has a 4-2 overall record so far this season.
Cedaredge's boys won their first three games before a loss to the 3A second-place team Aspen. The Bruins finished the year with a split in the annual First Colorado National Bank Tournament. The boys are 4-2 overall and own a 2-1 league mark.
This year's Cedaredge Lady Bruins feature a running game that has proven to be exciting to watch. Cedaredge started the season with a 38-32 win in Ridgway and followed that with a home win (59-33) over Gunnison.
Olathe slowed down the Lady Bruins' express with a 53-40 loss in Olathe. A win in Aspen took the Lady Bruins to the annual First Colorado National Bank Tournament in Delta.
Paonia and Cedaredge battled in the opening round of the FCNB tournament with the Lady Eagles holding on for a 38-35 win.
Cedaredge finished the 2013 portion of its schedule with a win over Hotchkiss in the consolation round of the FCNB tourney.
Cedaredge is in Basalt on Jan. 10 for a 5:30 p.m. contest. On Jan. 11, the Lady Bruins are in Parachute where they face Grand Valley in a 2:30 p.m. contest.
Kevin Dunbar's Bruins put together a three-game winning streak to begin their season. Those wins came at the expense of Ridgway, Gunnison and Olathe.
Their fourth game of the season came against a solid Aspen Skier crew who is 2-0 in league play and 3-2 overall. The Skiers shut down Cedaredge's win streak with a 50-44 decision.
The Bruins got the best of Paonia in the opening round of the First Colorado National Bank Tournament with a 54-40 score. In the title game, the Bruins played well in a 53-49 loss to Delta.
