The Cedaredge Bruins' wrestling team has been busy this past week with three dual meets and a tournament. On Thursday, Jan. 16, Cedaredge hosted a tri-meet, with Gunnison and Coal Ridge participating.
The Bruins defeated both teams handily and moved on to Salida for a Friday dual which resulted in a 72-8 victory.
Bruins 62, CR 6
Against the Titans, Cedaredge won all but one match to record the lopsided win.
Pins were recorded by Wyatt Toothaker (106), Beau Hebert (132), Peter Williamson (138), Zach Anderson (152), Brian Leahy (182), Landon Eckhart (195), Garrett Humble (220) and Mario Madaleno (285).
Blake Nation (113) and Ty Morton (145) won by forfeit.
The Bruins' lone loss came at 160 when Isaiah Surber lost by way of a pin.
Alejandro Alejandre couldn't get the pinning combination he wanted but worked his opponent for a 23-0 technical fall at 170.
Austin Todd (120) and Jacob Ostrom (126) were also winners for Cedaredge.
Bruins 72, Salida 8
Cedaredge continued its winning ways in dual meets with another strong showing in Salida. The only losses for Cedaredge came at 132 and 160.
The Bruins earned pins at 106, 113, 120, 126, 145 and 182. Cedaredge picked up forfeits at 138, 152, 170, 195 and 285.
Rob Mickel Tourney
The Bruins literally rolled over their opponents on their way to the Rob Mickel Tournament title in Salida on Saturday.
Cedaredge won the 17-team tournament with 216 points. Second-place Colorado Springs Christian had 179 to finish second. Center (167.5), Ignacio (125.5) and Norwood (123) completed the top-five list.
The Hotchkiss Bulldogs scored 91 points to place seventh in the tournament.
The Bruins have won their last two tournaments, which includes the Eagle Valley Tournament on Jan. 11.
Cedaredge won three individual titles on its way to the team title in Salida.
Austin Todd pinned Center's Erik Perez to win the 120-pound division and Landon Eckhart won the 195-pound class with a pin over Colorado Springs Christian's Matt Snow.
At 285, the Bruins' Mario Madaleno won his title with a pin over Norwood's Damian Nieblas.
Peter Williamson was second in the 138 pound division after losing a 6-1 decision to Center's Jose Chavez.
Brian Leahy placed third in the 182-pound class with a pin over Camryn Baumgardner of Del Norte.
Ty Morton was 2-2 in the tournament and finished fourth in the 145-pound division.
Fifth-place finishers included Wyatt Toothaker (106), Jacob Ostrom (126), Alejandro Alejandre (170) and Garrett Humble (220).
Beau Hebert (132) and Isaiah Surber (160) placed sixth.
Cedaredge is at Paonia for dual action on Friday (Jan. 24) and is set to attend the Screaming Eagle Tournament in Paonia on Saturday.
The Bruins have several athletes listed in the Week 6 Rankings of On the Mat Rankings. At 106 pounds, Toothaker is listed 11th and Todd is sixth at 120 pounds.
Ostrom is listed 13th at 126, Williamson 11th at 138, Leahy 14th in the 182 pound class, Eckhart ninth at 195, Humble 11th at 220, and Madaleno eighth at 285.blog comments powered by Disqus
