It's been an up and down season for Cedaredge High School's boys basketball team. The Bruins lost by 17 points to Roaring Fork, 50-33, on Jan. 24 and defeated Olathe's Pirates Saturday, 35-29.
With the split over the weekend, Cedaredge slipped to 4-5 in league play and is 6-6 overall in the 3A WSL.
Against Olathe, struggling offenses kept the game close. Cedaredge was ahead 7-4 after one period of play and owned a 10-9 halftime lead over the Pirates.
Olathe was three points better than the Bruins in third-quarter play and was leading 20-18 with one period left in the game.
Cedaredge left little doubt as to who the winner would be with a 17-9 surge over the final eight minutes of the game for a 35-29 decision.
Aspen, the Bruins' foe on Feb. 1, owns a 7-0 and 8-2 record, to hold first place in league standings. Moffat County (6-1, 8-2), Roaring Fork (5-3, 5-6), Grand Valley (5-3, 6-5) and Coal Ridge (5-4, 5-7) are ahead of the Bruins in the standings.
Cedaredge traveled to Gunnison on Jan. 28 with thoughts of sweeping the Cowboys. The Bruins scored a 57-40 win over Gunnison at home on Dec. 10, 2013.
The week's final game will be played on Saturday (Feb. 1) against Aspen with that tipoff set for 5:30 p.m. Aspen won the first meeting between these two schools 50-44 back on Dec. 17, 2013.blog comments powered by Disqus
