Delta soccer team loses two

A pair of losses to 4A WSL foes leaves Delta High School's soccer team with an 0-4 league mark and 2-7 overall.

Delta fell to 3A Coal Ridge, 7-1, on Tuesday, Sept. 18,. Jorge Hernandez scored three goals for the Titans and had one assist.

Delta's lone goal was scored by Albee Kempton.

Last Saturday's home match against Eagle Valley was a tough defensive struggle that ended with the visiting Devils scoring a 3-2 WSL win.

Both Delta scores came in the second half after the Panthers had trailed 1-0 after the first half had come to a close. Ramiro Fausto and Kai Maulhardt found the net for Delta accounting for the Panthers' two scores.

Battle Mountain leads the league with a 5-0 league mark and 7-0 overall. Summit is second at 4-0 and 5-2 with Palisade holding third place at 5-2. Steamboat Springs is fourth (3-3, 4-4), Eagle Valley is fifth (3-4, 3-5), Rifle sits in sixth (1-4, 2-4), Delta is in seventh (0-4, 2-7), and Glenwood Springs rests on the bottom at 0-5 and 1-5.

Delta's next action, following the Tuesday, Sept. 25, match at Aspen, is with Grand Valley in Parachute on Saturday, Sept. 29, at 11 a.m. An Oct. 2 matchup has the Panthers visiting Gypsum to take on the Eagle Valley Devils at 6 p.m.
