Many of the athletes on this year's team recorded personal best times at the meet.

Coach Amanda Hatch noted her girls had been working hard through the Christmas break with individual times reflecting that work ethic.

Senior Soraya Luna dropped over six seconds in her 200 freestyle, coming in eighth overall with a time of 2:59.73.

Both Ashley Ortega (JR) and Madison Farmer (SO) put up excellent performances in the 50 freestyle, dropping over three seconds each.

Senior Kaselynn Komives came in 12 seconds faster than her previous personal best in the 100 backstroke.

Lydia Knutson, a freshman at Cedaredge High School, is still chasing that state qualifying time in the 50 freestyle and also put up an impressive second place finish in the 500 yard freestyle on Saturday at the team's first home meet of the season. She posted a 28.91 in the 50 freestyle (third) and was second in the 500 yard freestyle race with a time of 6:40.62.

Other top 10 finishers in the meet included both medley relay teams, Luna in the 100 freestyle (10th), Kenzie Henderson (fifth) and Akalyn Page (eighth) in the 100 backstroke.

Members of the 200 yard medley team who finished fifth included Holly Collins, Page, Knutson and Henderson. The same four swimmers are on the 200 freestyle team that finished fifth as well. A second 200 medley relay team that finished sixth is made up of Ortega, Luna, Bry Music and Mykayla Music.

Coach Hatch was impressed with the results of the opening meet of 2013. "We have lots of little details to work on between now and Conference Championships the first weekend of February, but the girls are highly dedicated and I have no doubt we will continue to put up personal best times throughout the remainder of the season."

The Delta swim team is in action again on Jan. 12 at Moffat County.
