The Delta men's team scored 48 points to place sixth among 21 teams competing Saturday at the Frank Woodburn Invitational track meet at Stocker Stadium in Grand Junction. Twenty-one teams competed at this year's meet, with Coal Ridge claiming the team win with 121 points.
Chris Black claimed his second win of the season in the 300-meter hurdles on Saturday. Black set a new personal record of 40.79 seconds to win the event, finishing two seconds ahead of Dante Markley of Cedaredge, who placed second. Black also cleared 5 feet, 10 inches to place fourth in the high jump.
Dustin Ownbey posted two personal best times and placed in the top three Saturday. He ran the 3200m in 10:33.84 to place second, and finished in 4:46.49 to place third in the 1600m.
Eian Baier placed 10th in the high jump with a jump of 5-6, and cleared 19-05.75 to place fifth in the long jump; Douglas Hawkins placed eighth in the long jump with a distance of 19-03.50.
In the 400-meter dash, Zack Decker placed fourth with a time of 52.82, and Hawkins placed seventh with at time of 53.92.
The 3200-meter team of Decker, Jonathan Kinderknecht, Luis Pina and Ownbey placed fifth.
Skylyn Webb topped a field of 46 competitors to win the 200-meter dash in 26.79 seconds at the Frank Woodburn Invitational. She is currently ranked 10th in state 4A competition in the event. Webb is also ranked in the top 18 in the state in the 100-meter dash, but was disqualified from the event on Saturday after a false start.
Bryanna Music found success in the shot put ring. The junior and returning state qualifier had a throw of 38 feet, 1 inch to place second. Music's throw of 38-7.75 at the Delta Invitational remains the third best distance recorded this season in state 4A competition.
Music had her best throw of the season in the discus on Saturday, placing second with a throw of 110 feet, 1 inch. She is currently ranked 12th in the state in the event.
Patti Chapman also placed in two events. Chapman cleared 15 feet, 2.75 inches to place fourth in the long jump, and placed second in the triple jump with a distance of 34-01.75.
The 800m medley relay team of Natalie Marvin, Rae Loy, Nia Prescott and Adara Sandoval finished eighth. Sandoval also placed seventh in the 400m dash.
Amelia Hawkins cleared 4-08 to place sixth in the high jump.
