Delta High School's golf team has had some solid success so far in the 2013 prep season. The Panthers tied for second place (with Grand Junction) in the Rifle tournament with a team score of 236.
Keaton Reiher has been the top performer for Delta so far this season with top rounds of 74 at both Gypsum Creek and Rifle Creek.
Reiher tied for second at Gypsum Creek and tied for third at Rifle. The talented senior shot a 76 at Redlands Mesa to place in the top five.
Marty Rover is in his second season as the head golf coach at Delta High School and is working with 16 individuals.
Reiher, a four-year player for DHS, has an average score of 79.67 for his five matches played so far. Close behind Reiher is senior Tyler Garcia who has recorded a low score of 78 and also has a pair of 79s to post an average of 81.40 for his five rounds.
Six juniors have been in the Delta golf program for the past three years. Ryan Geddes has the top score for the junior contingent with an 87 at Battlement Mesa. Jacob Leary's 93 is his top round of the season and he shot that at Lakota Canyon.
Jacob Swisher fired a 98 at Redlands Mesa and Clay Wollert had a 108 as his best effort at Redlands.
Other juniors include Eric Deines, Kyle Anderson and Joe Gray.
The rest of Rover's team roster is filled with freshmen. Logan Wood leads that group with a good score of 81 at Battlement Mesa. Blake Reiher shot an 84 at Rifle and Cristian Hall had a 106 at Rifle. The remaining freshmen players include Ty McCurdy, J.W. Tindall and Dominick Chavez.
The Panthers will host their own tournament at Devil's Thumb Golf Course this Wednesday (Aug. 28) beginning at 9 a.m.
Delta plays Cobble Creek in Montrose on Thursday and heads to Montrose's Black Canyon course next Tuesday (Sept. 3).blog comments powered by Disqus
