It was a banner year for the Delta High School Lady Panthers softball team. They finished first in the 4A WSL and made it into post-season play before being eliminated in state playoffs.
The honors continue for Delta as the 2013 All-conference player selections were announced recently. The Lady Panthers landed four players on the prestigious First Team.
Leading the way for the Lady Panthers was four-year player Bryanna Music who finished the year with a .583 batting average and an on-base percentage of .597.
Music was the team's leading hitter for regulars that included 32 RBIs, 13 doubles, three triples and a pair of home runs. She had five stolen bases with a .978 fielding percentage with just three errors on the season.
Next on the elite list of 4A WSL players to be honored was freshman Lily Lockhart. She was no slouch with the bat as she completed the 2013 season with a .492 batting average that included 42 RBIs, eight doubles, three triples and a team-leading 10 home runs. She had an on-base percentage of .577 with a slugging percentage of 1.169.
Lockhart was the Lady Panthers' workhorse on the mound and worked 12 games. She finished the season at 6-6 with seven complete games and 74 innings pitched. Her stats included a mere double and two home runs allowed while facing 350 batters.
A second freshman who is far from finished with all-star results in a season is Megan Sandoval. Her batting average (.536) was second-highest on this year's team among regular starters.
Sandoval scored 44 runs to lead the Lady Panthers in that category and had 18 RBIs (third on the team) with nine doubles and a triple. Her on-base percentage of .610 was best among the 2013 starters. She tied Music for stolen bases with five.
Perhaps the most important asset Sandoval possesses is her natural ability to lead. She was a true leader behind the plate and directed Delta's defense with a firm hand.
Delta's fourth selection to this year's First Team was Kasha Culver. She missed a couple of games this season due to an ankle injury but still managed to finish the season with a batting average of .453 and scored 31 runs for the Lady Panthers. Culver had 11 RBIs with three doubles and a triple to her credit in 2013.
Culver's on-base percentage was .533 with a slugging percentage of .531. She stole two bases and had a fielding percentage of .778 for the season.
Delta's Honorable Mention selection was Keilee Womack. As a sophomore, Womack proved she will be a definite force to contend with next season. Her 7-0 pitching record will be a solid launching pad for next seaon's work.
Womack had a good stick with a .356 batting average that included 16 RBIs and a pair of doubles. She was a strong defender with a .958 fielding percentage for the Panthers.
To top off the season, the 2013 Player of the Year honors went to two players, Bryanna Music and Rifle's Emma Speers.
One other top award also belonged to Delta High School as the Lady Panther's Steve Reiher was tabbed as this year's 4A WSL Coach of the Year in girls' softball. Reiher is in his second season as the head coach.blog comments powered by Disqus
