The Delta Panther wrestling team improved its dual record to 8-1 with a 45-20 win in Alamosa on Friday.
Delta picked up wins from Hayes McCracken (120) with a pin against Alamosa's Tyler Copely in 1:28.
Tylon Cordova decisioned Devon Atencio 7-2 and Daryan Urquhart (138) pinned Jacob Martinez in a time of 2:52.
At 160, Daniel Brown decisioned Adrian Ramirez, 4-2. Kory Mills won by pin over Zekeal Bernal (2:31), with Cordell Stroud (182) and Livan Santander (195) picking up forfeit wins.
Alejandro Medina earned a 1-0 decision over Manuelito Casias at 220 and Marcus Garcia pinned Michael Quintana at 3:30.
The Panthers came away with second place but did not wrestle their best, noted head coach Clayton Curtis.
Delta's highest places came from David and Daniel Brown. "Both placed second at the Alamosa Tournament. Daniel continues to impress me this season. He is really starting to develop as a wrestler that can compete with just about anybody," quoted Curtis.
Garcia and Alejandro Medina placed third, with Hayes McCracken and Daryan Urquhart placing fourth.
Curtis knows his team can do better even though it placed second in the tournament. "It's amazing that we placed as high as we did without wrestling our best. Some wrestlers wrestled great while others didn't. We just need to put it all together and wrestle great at the same time and we'll accomplish amazing things."
The Panthers take on Moffat County Thursday, Jan. 23, with matches set for 6 and 7 p.m.
