Montrose outhits Delta

Delta’s Panthers were looking to make amends from their first encounter with Montrose’s Indians on March 22 where they fell 6-0. Last week’s game, with the Indians wasn’t exactly what Delta wanted as Montrose outhit the Panthers 11-6 to score a 10-1 decision. Isaiah Kathrein beats the throw from Montrose’s second baseman after driving a double to right-center.
Montrose is a 4A baseball team playing in a 5A division. The Indians have put together a good season in 2012 with an 11-3 overall mark and 4-3 in the tough 5A SWL.

County tennis nears end

Cedaredge 3S player Brianna Henrie returns a shot to Amber Rankin of Hotchkiss. The Lady Bruins and Lady Bulldogs faced off in the final matches of the season before heading into regional competition, which begins Thursday morning.
All four Delta County tennis teams wrapped up scheduled matches last Thursday, with Hotchkiss edging out Cedaredge, 4-3, and Delta dominating Paonia.

The 4A Region 8 tournament, which is being hosted by Delta, is expected to be tough for all four schools.

Delta County’s soccer team

Delta County’s soccer team is shown relaxing, with a little laughter, during halftime of their soccer match with the visiting 4A league’s top team, Glenwood Springs. On the right is head coach Julie Mottern who had her team in the thick of things up to halftime. The score was tied at 1-1 after the first 40 minutes of play. In the second half, the Lady Demons got their offense rolling, and its defense put up a wall to outscore Delta 4-0 for a 5-1 final score.
