Hotchkiss junior Jennifer Celis claimed another meet record Saturday, besting the old Cedaredge Invitational record by more than a second to win the 400-meter dash. Celis's time of 57.8 seconds was two-tenths of a second over her record-setting performance a week earlier at the Hotchkiss Invitational.
It's currently the fastest time officially recorded in the event in state 2A competition this season. The time was also a second faster than her second-place time at the 2012 state track meet.
Celis, along with teammates Natalie Anderson, Katie Parsons and Sophia Schelle, claimed the gold in the 1600-meter relay. Their winning time of 4:18.25 topped the second-place time for Coal Ridge High School by more than 4 seconds.
The team of Anderson, Mae Anderson, Schelle and Celis was one of two teams to top the meet record in the 3200m relay. Their time of 10:04.92 was nine seconds shy of the old meet record set by Delta High School in 2012. The Delta team re-set its record with a time of 9:56.46.
The 800m medley team of Arial Duncan, Chase Bizer, Kelli Buhrdorf and Parsons placed third.
In a field of 52 runners, Buhrdorf was among the top performers in the 100m dash. Buhrdorf ran a season-best time of 13.5 seconds to place fourth. Her time was the best among 2A runners.
In distance races, Mae Anderson placed fifth in the 800m run. The Anderson sisters both competed in the 1600m run, with Natalie placing third with a time of 5:34.56, and Mae finishing fifth in 5:45.46.
In throwing events, Kylie Hodges threw the discus 96 feet, 8 inches to place fourth, and had a third-place throw in the shot put of 34-10. Daryl Batt threw the discus 86-05 to place eighth.
