A walk-off grand slam home run by Joel Simianer gave Paonia the second win of the day over Rangely Saturday, and left the Eagles undefeated in 2A Western Slope League competition.
Paonia was up 4-10 in the bottom of the fifth when Simianer hit his second home run of the season to score four runs and give Paonia a 4-14 win over the Panthers.
Tyler Kendall threw nine strike-outs and allowed five hits in game two.
Tyler Jackson was 3 for 3, including two doubles and a triple and one RBI. Kendall also hit a first-inning solo home run.
Seven RBIs and 11 hits boosted the Eagles to a 0-11 win in game one. Kendall was 1-3 with four RBIs, including a two-run single in the bottom of the second. Paonia had two strike-outs for the game. Simianer hit a 2-run double in the fifth inning with one out to give Paonia a 0-9 lead.
In game one, Rangely's biggest scoring threat came in the bottom of the fourth, with bases loaded with two outs. Taylor Katzer, who pitched eight strike-outs and allowed two hits in five innings, struck out Trevor Matriciano to end the inning.
In the fifth inning, Keaton Kropp stopped a grounder to second base for a 2-1 double play. Second baseman Jesse Gillenwater also stopped an infield grounder, making the throw to first for the final out.
The Eagles (8-4 overall, 6-0 2A Western Slope League) will put their hitting game to the test this Saturday against Hotchkiss (8-3, 4-2) and pitchers Cesar Gonzalez and Devan Rupe. The conference double-header opens at 11 a.m., at the Hotchkiss K-8 field.blog comments powered by Disqus
